When it comes to tyres – there’s no disputing, Continental knows its stuff! A global leader and innovator in the field, it’s renowned for pioneering some of the world’s leading tyre technologies using advanced German engineering, spanning nearly 150 years.
Founded in Hanover, Germany in 1871 (and with its development and engineering hub still in Hanover today) Continental continues in its legacy to prove its inventive spirit in and through every product.
Along with innovation and performance, the safety of Continental tyres is a top priority and focus for the 1000-strong R&D team. The company’s extensive research facility incorporates the world-famous Contidrom racetrack where Continental tyres are put through their paces with the ultimate purpose of making driving safer.
The inventor of the first tread pattern in the world, Continental has continued with many international breakthroughs in the advancement of tyres through the years. Amongst Continental’s other early milestones was its invention of detachable wheel rims for touring cars. It was also the first company to develop springs for trucks and buses, going on to develop the first environmentally friendly tyres for passenger cars.
The Continental Corporation is today divided into the Automotive Group and the Rubber Group and consists of five divisions. As part of Continental’s Commercial Vehicle Tyres business unit, its focused TBR range for the heavy-duty transport sector, is the end result of extensive research and innovation that is inherent in all its tyres. These specialised tyres are designed and manufactured for many and varying applications, road conditions, types of vehicle, driver behaviour and customer requirements.
While its past and present are integral to its current-day success, Continental is a visionary company. Its future-orientated vision will be bound to ensure that innovation remains central to its tyre development and focus in the years ahead.
